Our Robert Lamb caught up with Atlanta, Georgians Today the Moon, Tomorrow the Sun, who will perform at The Boot this Wednesday, August 26 at 10 pm. Check out their video further below.
How long have you all been playing together? We spent one year hiding out in our basement before deciding to play out, which was a little over two years ago.
How do you guys write your music? Are there any major themes throughout your songs? Together! We write our music together. Sometimes it starts with a beat, other times with a riff or lyric. We try to let everything happen as organically as possible. As for themes, perhaps contrast is one–we like to explore everything from the really big to the really small and delicate, along with all that is between. Lyrically, themes include…rites of passages, transitions, self-preservation, lights at the end of the tunnels…yeah, stuff like that!
Do you have a favorite song to play? One of our new ones, “Apologia.” It’s fun to play because all the different parts make it very dynamic. It’s our little anthem. People sing along, people dance…that makes us happy.
What are your favorite bands? Do you feel like they have influenced your music? If so, how? There are the staples–bands we grew up with and so heavily shaped popular music–The Cure, The Beatles, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, and Nirvana. Then there are bands along the way–like Blur, The Sundays and Silverchair–that will always stay in rotation. It’s hard to tell just how those bands have influenced our music, but it would be crazy to think that they hadn’t. As for newer music, come ask us! We can talk about it all night at a show.
What are your live shows like? Do you have a most memorable show? We hold nothing back in our live shows! It’s important to us that we connect with everyone in the room. We try to eliminate the division between the band and the audience. We want the room to dance with us and let go for 45 minutes of their day.
What are the best and worst parts of being on tour? Best: sharing all kinds of crazy and random experiences with each other, meeting new people, and exploring new places. Worst: missing our pets. (And family and friends, of course!)
Any last words? Come see us live! We won’t let ya down. Buy a CD and pass it along to your friends. Support local music!
