Daily Irrelevance

As I awoke this morning on my parent’s living room couch to which I had fled for free heat and hours of TiVo, I had some time to think as I could not yet open my eyes or mouth. Encrusted with ocular boogers, I reflected on how much better we can really see ourselves when we can’t even see that much. I felt like saying something about it, but the unholy mixture of saliva, Black Label, High Life and halfheartedly applied Crest toothpaste had settled into a kind of mild adhesive that tasted like a very expensive cheese that took some acquiring to develop a palate for. Later on I was listening to some recent re-issues from the wizards at Seattle’s Light In The Attic Records. Of course, this brought me to thinking about what the experience is like to be a 27-year-old Caucasian in America on January 24, 2009. Judging by the little dance I did to this gem from Rodriguez, it might be very similar to the experience of a drug addled and overlooked Hispanic musical genius in Detroit in the early ’70s.

Rodriguez – Sugar Man

p.s. This is my first attempt at uploading an mp3 to the site, and I have a gut feeling I mucked it up. If you feel like downloading “Sugar Man” by Rodriguez (and trust me on this one, it is awesome), you can find it here, legal and everything.

ABOUT THE WRITER

George Booker is writing this about himself in the third person. He was considering second person, maybe making this the "Bright Lights, Big City" of bios. He was looking into casting Micheal J. Fox in the forthcoming film adaptation, as the disabled actor would likely portray him with ample charm, sympathy, and fifty-something boyish handsomeness. Recently, however, Booker has realized that only Anne Hathaway or Chiwetel Ejiofor could really capture his essence. Late 20s, Norfolk raised music writer. Former DJ and production head for WVFS Tallahassee, former staff clerk at defunct Norfolk music stores DJ's and Relative Theory. Current Film Editor and Contributor to No Ripcord Magazine, contributed blurbs to Link and Port Folio Magazine.
